A Texas man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly trying to kill his estranged girlfriend and their two kids by cutting them up and disposing their bodies.
Police said 34-year-old Brian Campbell was inspired by the cable television show ‘Dexter,’ according to ABC affiliate KIII-TV. The fictional show follows a man who leads a double life: he works for the police, but he's also a serial killer.
Campbell showed up to his old girlfriend's home at 2 a.m. Wednesday. A man, Kristopher Steward, opened the door, and Campbell pinned him on the ground with a machete. According to the report, Campbell asked where his ex and his children were and the Steward said at a hospital. He then left, and looked for them. Steward, who was housesitting, called 911, according to CBS affiliate KZTV.
After he couldn’t find his estranged family, Campbell allegedly returned to the home to murder the housesitter but police stopped him before he could. Police claimed Campbell was tired of paying “too much child support” and decided the only way out was to kill his ex and their children.
He has been charged on four counts of attempted murder and aggravated burglary. His bond is over $1 million.
