An Indiana Army sergeant and jail corrections officer is facing felony sexual misconduct charges after allegedly becoming impregnated with an inmate’s baby.
“She and the inmate engaged in some type of sexual interaction that resulted in her becoming pregnant,” said Johnson County Deputy Prosecutor Alex Hamner in a Fox59 report.
Sgt. Heather Sinnett, 27, is accused of having sexual relations with inmate Brad Gullege at the Edinburgh Correctional Facility. The facility is a minimum security work release program. According to the report, Sinnett was assigned to supervise inmates.
“People place great trust in people who oversee and supervise IDOC inmates and anytime somebody betrays that trust or takes advantage of it for their own personal satisfaction…it is very serious,” said Hamner.
Gullege told police that he and Sinnett had a sexual encounter in a mop closet. Court documents revealed Sinnett emailed Gullege that she was waiting on him to get out of jail so they can take care of “their” baby.
Police also found a phone call between Gulledge and Sinnett. In the call, Gulledge and Sinnett discuss the sexual encounter, according to RTV6. Gulledge mentioned how "hurried and brief" the event was. Sinnett said "it was enough [to make her pregnant]."
