A male nurse from Pennsylvania has been arraigned on charges he photographed and filmed nude female patients at the skin treatment center where he worked. James Close, 45, a licensed practical nurse at Penn Medicine Dermatology was first arrested on February 13 after being accused of secretly recording a 17-year-old patient as she undressed. Monday, he was charged with an additional 43 counts after police found images of seven other women on Close’s phone, according to NBC News Philadelphia.
The 17-year-old caught on to Close when she noticed an iPhone lying at her feet as she undressed to receive radiation treatment for a skin disorder. "They learned it about the first victim, who was a juvenile,” Lower Makefield Police Chief Ken Coluzzi said in an interview. "The nurse technician puts a phone underneath the curtain and films her. Detectives look into it further and find out that there are multiple victims." Investigators ultimately found 18 other videos showing the teen girl and seven adult women undressing while undergoing skin treatment. All of the victims were filmed without their knowledge or consent while their vision was obscured due to protective eyewear they wore during treatment.
Bucks County District Attorney Matt Weintraub told Philadelphia’s CBS 3 that he's "afraid there may be more.” Authorities are currently looking into other facilities where Close worked as a nurse to determine if more victims will come forward. A spokesperson for Penn Medicine said: "We're appalled by the actions of the former employee and are cooperating with the investigation." Close is currently in jail, being unable to post bail of 10 percent of $150,000.
