MMA Fighter War Machine née Jon Koppenhaver was found guilty of kidnapping and sexual assault in a 2014 attack in Las Vegas. Now, War Machine's ex, adult entertainer Christy Mack, is opening up about her experience of the trial in an interview on HBO’s Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel.
“I never looked at him except when I was asked to identify him,” Mack said to reporter David Scott.
“He had mouthed that he loved me and that was extremely difficult,” she added. “And I began bawling immediately. Because, for a long time, I did feel, you know, still emotionally connected to him.”
“She recovered from major surgeries and still had significant dental work to be done,” said Scott. “She will lose her front teeth in the next year as a result of damage sustained to her facial structure from the beating ... Her endurance through it all speaks to her fortitude and stamina. She wants to bring her perpetrator to justice while sending a message to men that it’s not all right [to beat women] and to women that it’s not all right to stay.”
War Machine was found guilty of assaulting Mack after finding her in bed with an ex-boyfriend, whom he also attacked. War Machine's lawyers attempted to argue the assault was consensual and part of the couple's shared brutal rape fantasies.
