A Utah mom is accused of locking her 12-year-old son in the bathroom of her home for at least a year, the Salt Lake Tribune reported.

Brandy Jaynes, 36, allegedly brought her son to the brink of starvation; the 12-year-old weighed just 30 pounds and couldn’t stand on his own feet when his father discovered him in a visit to his estranged wife’s home.

“It was like a horror movie you expect to see out of Hollywood,” Lt. David Crouse said to People. “It was a small bathroom with feces and urine all over the floor.”

The bathroom was like a “torture chamber,” Crouse told People. Inside, the lights were kept off under inches of duct tape. As the boy slept under blankets, inches away the floor was covered in feces (the toilet was full), and a few empty cans of beans lined the shower. A camera and video monitor perched on a shower ledge recorded the boy.

Jaynes told police that “her son wanted to sleep in this bathroom," according to documents obtained by People.

The boy, who was taken out of school three years ago, has two siblings who seem healthy and show no signs of abuse, Crouse said. It’s unclear how much they knew about their brother.
