Mom Charged With Felony Murder After 3-Year-Old Son Drowns In Pool

The three other children living with the mother were taken into protective custody.

A Georgia woman was arrested on murder charges after her 3-year-old son was found unresponsive in a swimming pool on Memorial Day, The Atlanta Journal Constitution reported.

Investigators don’t believe the boy’s death was an accident, AJC reported. It was the county’s second drowning death of a young child over the holiday weekend; the first was deemed accidental.

WGCL reports emergency responders went to the boy’s home at 1:30 pm, at which point a deputy police officer pulled the unconscious boy out of the pool. He was not breathing at this time, EMS director Brad Cothran said.

Paramedics believed that the child was underwater too long to be resuscitated, and responders called a coroner to the home.

Police arrested Bobbie Jessica Prather, 32, after 6 pm on charges of felony murder and four counts of cruelty to children. The three other children living with Prather were taken into protective custody.
