Donald Royce and his 62-year-old wife fought because she would not have sex with him, even though they had gotten married in August, according to a report by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
Their argument was overheard by their roommate, followed by two shots. When the roommate ran to see what had happened, Royce pointed the gun at her, but the roommate eventually convinced him to let her call an ambulance.
“I shot her and the gun is in my room,” Royce told first responders when they arrived.
He told police he hadn’t meant to shoot his wife and that he had aimed at their mattress.
Royce’s wife, who wasn't identified, is recovering from the two shots, which left one wound in her buttocks and another in her hip.
