Following the delivery of an empassioned monologue about President Donald Trump, CNN reporter Don Lemon began receiving a series of extreme death threats made by at least one white nationalist. Now, the NYPD is investigating the source of those threats.
Lemon had specifically been addressing President Trump's ongoing public disagreement with Gold Star widow Myeshia Johnson. Trump had sought to dispute claims made by Johnson about a private call the two had following the death of her husband.
According to TMZ, CNN's security team contacted the NYPD following a series of racist messages sent to the organization over Twitter: "F*ck you n***** can't wait to stab your neck" and "U r a pile of rotting Dogshit, racist, communist, socialist, Liberal moron asshole,i will find u U will pay.ill see u real soon..." the messages read.
The user who sent the messages described themselves in their bio as a "white nationalist conservative . pro gun anti islam anti terrorist anti leftist yes i HATE demorats, blm, antifa ,socialists. heavily armed racist.WLM."
The NYPD is considering both aggravated harassment and hate crime charges against the angry and racist social media user, who espoused pro-Trump sentiments. The investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made just yet.
“It was harassment and they also made a threat. The person said, ‘I will find you real soon.’ And called [Lemon] a f---ing n-word,” an NYPD spokesman said. “It’s being investigated at this time.”
Both the tweets in question and the profile of the user who sent them have since been deleted. Lemon has not given any comment on the situation.
