Police Issue 'Pity' Parking Ticket

Pity granted

Sometimes honesty is the best policy. A driver in Wausau, Wisconsin left their car parked overnight with a note to the officer. "Please take pity on me. I walked home ... Safe choices :)," the note said, implying that the driver was too inebriated to drive. The officer who found the car the next day empathized and issued a "pity" parking ticket.

When Officer Jim Hellrood found the car in a metered lot overnight, he took pity on the driver and responded with a note stating, "pity granted, just a warning." According to the Wausau Police Department Facebook page, "Jim Hellrood can appreciate people making safe choices, and a good sense of humor."
