A Maryland couple were arrested after their infant was found beaten to death last Friday. According to a press release from the Baltimore Police Department, the baby’s father claimed that the baby rolled off the bed and banged his head. The dad, 31-year-old Perry Nelson-Johnson, said baby seemed fine up until the point that he called police. 5-month-old Emmanuel Johnson was transported to shock trauma and was soon pronounced deceased.
Old and new injuries were found on the baby’s body and an autopsy revealed that he suffered severe head trauma. Police said that the injuries found on the infant were not consistent with a fall and the evidence at the home. The death was ruled a homicide by multiple blunt force trauma to the head.
Police believe that Perry Nelson-Johnson used a blunt object to cause injuries to his son. The suspect is blind and uses a guide stick to navigate, according to the press release. He was arrested and charged with murder. The baby’s mother, 27-year-old Angelique Petty, was also arrested after detectives found evidence that Petty knowingly endangered the infant. She has been charged with multiple felonies including first degree child abuse resulting in death and first degree assault.
