Police arrested a Tennessee preacher and teacher’s assistant on charges that he tied up a teen student with rope and then raped her, People magazine reported.
Mike Ulmer, 53, is maintaining his innocence in the crime, according to his lawyer.
Police claim that Ulmer picked up his 18-year-old victim from the school where he worked on Feb. 16 and brought her to his house, which he paid her to clean. He allegedly tied up the teen in the garage—binding her wrists and threading the rope through a hook in the ceiling—before raping her.
The victim also told police that Ulmer had forced his fingers into her mouth four months earlier, and then held her head down on his lap while forcing her mouth open.
Investigators say the victim managed to record the alleged incident on her cell phone and that, on the recording, Ulmer can be heard ordering the girl to open her mouth as she asks him to stop.
She recorded the encounter because she “felt like he was going to do something to her that night,” according to court documents obtained by The Jackson Sun.
Ulmer is charged with rape, sexual battery and assault. He is a pastor at the Bethlehem Baptist Church.
He was suspended from his teacher’s assistant position on Feb. 17, when he was arrested.
