A convicted sex offender took to Facebook Live to proclaim his innocence while brandishing a gun during a 10-hour standoff with police at a Norfolk, Virginia Econo Lodge. “I am 30 years old I have been doing time after time for crimes I actually did not commit like the one I’ve been accused of now,” said Clifton Newsome from inside his barricaded motel room. "I didn't rape anyone. I didn't touch anyone. I am an innocent man since I was a child." His alleged victim disagrees. She said he violently assaulted her New Year's Day. “I was awaken to being basically strangled and having my clothes pulled off,” she told WTKR Channel 3 News.

Newsome has served time for trespassing, sexual assault of a minor, firearms charges, and was released from jail two weeks prior to the alleged sexual assault. His accuser spoke about the attack to WTKR. “I was gargling, he was choking me so bad, and somehow I managed to get enough of a scream out that my grandparents heard me in the back of the house and ran out there," she said. "And that's when he got into the altercation with my grandparents and assaulted my grandmother.”

Police had gone to serve a warrant on Newsome Thursday morning on rape and sexual assault charges, but he refused to come out of his room. He then took to Facebook Live, proclaiming his innocence, claiming himself to be a victim of “the state.” “The odds are stacked against me,” he says at one point, holding his gun aloft, “I ain’t got no choice but to go out the way I am about to go out,” according to The Virginian Pilot. After a 10-hour standoff, he peacefully surrendered to officers.  [Photo: Facebook Live]
