Marina Lonina pleaded guilty to the charge of obstructing justice after she livestreamed the rape last year. The victim’s attacker, Raymond Gates, pleaded guilty to the rape and is sentenced to 9 years in prison.
In Feb. 2016, Lonina and the victim went to Gates’s house, where they got drunk. Gates then forcibly made the victim have sex with him as she asked him to stop. Lonina claimed that she livestreamed the attack to help the victim, but prosecutors said she soon was sucked in by the likes and attention her broadcast was getting.
Initially, Lonina was also charged in the sexual assault, which could have garnered her up to 40 years in prison, Metro reports.
The victim claimed that Lonina manipulated Gates into raping her to begin with, which Lonina's attorney called "unmitigated nonsense."
"I was too gullible to see how manipulative [Lonina] truly is," the victim said in a statement to the court, regarding the pair's former friendship.
