A teenage boy accidentally killed himself on Instagram Live. 13-year-old Malachi Hemphill was on social media playing with a gun on Monday evening when it went off, according to 11 Alive. He was taken to Atlanta's Grady Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Shaniqua Stephens, his mother, remembers the horrifying moment. “I heard a big boom. I couldn’t tell if it was a gun shot or what."
Stephens and her daughter rushed to find Malachi laying in a pool of blood. "My daughter screamed and said, ‘Mom turn his phone off!' As I proceeded to look at his phone he was on Instagram Live.”
After speaking to several of his friends (who were watching the accidental suicide), she says that someone asked why he didn’t have a clip in the gun he was brandishing. “As he put the clip in the gun, that is when the gun went off,” she said.
Shaniqua says that she and her husband tried to monitor their son's social media usage as much as they could. She isn't sure where her son got a gun but believes it was passed on by a friend.
