After Kim Kardashian tried out the vampire facial and broadcasted the experience on social media three years ago, both the facial and facelift treatments have exploded in popularity. Now, Sandra Yaneth Perez-Gonzalez, AKA Sandra Yaneth Slaughter, a provider of the cosmetic treatment (so called because it uses a patient's own blood as a rejuvenating agent), is being charged with murder after a customer of hers died following illegal injections from the fraudulent professional.
Perez-Gonzalez is pleading not guilty to murdering Hamilet Suarez. Suarez died after receiving illegal buttock enhancements from Areli’s Beauty Salon in Long Beach, California. According to KTLA, Perez-Gonzalez administered the enhancements, allegedly leading Suarez to to a collapse and go into cardiac arrest. Suarez was then taken by medical professionals to a hospital where she died.
Perez-Gonzalez has no valid medical licenses, but her shop had offered butt and lip injections and vampire facials as services. Prosecutors are recommending her bail be set at $2 million. She potentially faces life in prison.
Death from illegal injections may be on the rise, according to a 2013 CBS report. Many of the victims are trans women who cannot afford many procedures required to transition.
