New York, NY – February 1, 2017 – Oxygen Media is refocusing its programming and will expand to a crime destination for women, it was announced today by Frances Berwick, President, Lifestyle Networks, NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment. Having recently grown the network’s “Crime Time” weekend block to four days a week (Friday – Monday), Oxygen will stay true to its core female viewers and continue to ramp up its programming efforts starting with the new series “Three Days to Live,” premiering Sunday, March 5, and announces greenlights for “Cold Justice,” from Executive Producer Dick Wolf, and “The Jury Speaks,” both premiering 3Q 2017. In addition, a new podcast, “Martinis & Murder,” is available immediately. The network will have a full-time crime slate in place this summer.
“The recent expansion of our ‘Crime Time’ weekend block has enjoyed double-digit gains and has really resonated with our female audience,” said Berwick, “Oxygen has always played in this space with the highly successful original series ‘Snapped,’ one of the longest running crime series on television now approaching it’s 20th season. With a lot of high quality projects in development, we believe our current fans, as well as all arm chair detectives, have good reason to be excited.”
Since the start of the weekend “Crime Time” block, Oxygen is up 22% in women 25-54 and up 42% in total viewers (2016 vs. 4Q 2015) behind the success of “Snapped” and the network’s original programming slate. Overall, the demand for true crime content among women 25-54 is up double-digits (+10%) the past two years. Also in 2016, with 4.6 Million full episode TV Everywhere starts, Oxygen Digital (Oxygen.com and Oxygen Now app) had its best year ever, up +117% versus the same time period last year. In addition, 2016 was Oxygen Digital’s best year ever for visits and unique visitors (up +95% and +70% respectively from 2015).
