Spring Breakers Arrested For Allegedly Raping Woman Found Dead

Two college roommates could be facing homicide charges after allegedly drugging and raping a woman on spring break in Miami.

The Miami-Date State’s Attorney’s Office has announced that they’re considering adding homicide charges to Evoire Collier, 21, and Dorian Taylor, 24, for the death of Christine Englehardt earlier this year, according to the Miami Herald.

Englehardt, 24, of Richboro, Pennsylvania, traveled to Miami alone for a spring break holiday. On March 18, Miami Beach police say that Collier and Taylor met Englehardt at a restaurant before Taylor gave Englehardt a “green pill,” according to the Miami Herald. Collier told police that he went along with Taylor, admitting that he and Taylor “planned to have sex with her.”

Surveillance video from the Albion Hotel showed the suspects walking Englehardt to her hotel room. The men were captured leaving the room about 30 minutes later at around 1:30 am, Philadelphia’s NBC 10 reported. Detectives said that in the video, Englehardt was “staggering and appeared to be in no condition to give any kind of consent prior to entering the hotel.”

The North Carolina men were arrested soon after Englehardt’s body was found in her South Beach hotel room. They were charged with burglary with battery, sexual battery, petty theft, and credit card fraud, according to the Herald. Collier and Taylor allegedly stole Englehardt’s credit cards to continue partying.

Miami Beach Police also found matching green pills on Taylor.

The announcement of possible homicide-related charges stems from a medical examiner’s report that Englehardt died from “prone positioning while under the influence of fentanyl and ethanol,” according to South Florida's NBC 6.

“Although the concentration of fentanyl detected is fatal, a component of positional asphyxia, with her face pressed down into soft bedding as a result of physical restraint and/or chemical impairment to facilitate sexual assault, cannot be excluded,” the report stated.

Englehardt’s toxicology report also showed trace amounts of marijuana, cocaine, and amphetamine that were “very small and carry little significance,” according to the Herald. It also showed that Englehardt’s blood alcohol content level was more than double the legal limit at .197, while another test measured her level at .24.

It was not clear whether or not the men were with Englehardt when she died.

“It’s devastating. My whole heart is praying for her family,” Collier’s aunt, Tanda Collier, told the Herald.

Collier, who is described as a good student and athlete, told police that he thought the pill was the painkiller Percocet, according to the Herald.

“He’s a good kid. He wouldn’t hurt a fly,” Tanda Collier said.

Sam DiFrancesco, a friend of Englehardt, created a GoFundMe page on behalf of her mother.

“Christine Englehardt’s life was taken from her,” wrote DiFrancesco on the page. “Two men who don’t deserve to be named stole this woman’s entire future in a very sickening way and put her mother and father in a great deal of heartbreak.”

According to her Facebook page, Englehardt was the assistant manager at a pizzeria and an avid runner.

Both Collier and Taylor had pleaded not guilty to the charges from March.
