The capture of a Florida man who was allegedly chasing down his girlfriend and attempting to kill her over the weekend was caught on dramatic body camera footage released by police this week.

The footage captures Aaron Thayer, 39, just after he allegedly pointed a loaded gun at his girlfriend while chasing her on Saturday at her home in Flagler County, just north of Daytona Beach. Flagler County police officers, who had been aware of Thayer’s alleged threats against the woman, are seen in the video quickly springing into action, confronting and then Tazing the man after yelling at him to get on the ground.

“The Easter Bunny came early for the victim," Sheriff Rick Staley said in the press release, referring to the assistance of his deputies.

“This guy told the victim he was going to kill her and less than 24-hours later he had driven all night and was at her door to kill her,” he added. “I am so thankful that my deputies were able to intercept this guy and used their training, tactics and de-escalation techniques before he was able to hurt anyone."

The alleged victim, who has not been publicly named, notified police that she believed Thayer was on his way back to Florida from Connecticut to “make good on his threats to end her life,” the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement on the incident. She’d told authorities that Thayer had installed security cameras around the property in order to watch her. Sheriff’s deputies said she’d asked to speak to them in the cameras’ blind spots so Thayer wouldn’t see.

As his threatening text messages and calls allegedly continued, deputies said they had the victim answer to help them determine Thayer’s location. On one call, Thayer asked his estranged girlfriend who was in the house with her and said he was on his way there to kill her.

Around 3 p.m on Saturday, the victim called 911 to report Thayer was at the house, armed with a tire iron, and attempting to break in.

“Thayer made forced entry through the back door of the occupied residence, threatening to kill the victim. He then entered her bedroom and took 400.00 dollars from within the residence and grabbed a firearm that was on the victim’s nightstand, cocked it, and began chasing after the victim threatening to kill her,” the statement reads.

The woman fled her home and when deputies arrived she was being chased by Thayer. Their attempts to apprehend Thayer and take him into custody are seen in the footage. A loaded handgun was found in the waistband of his jeans, as was a knife.

“Unbelievable!” Thayer is heard yelling as he is cuffed and being searched by the officers. “Unreal, dude. I did nothing but come home. What the f--k. This is not f--king right. I love you! I came here for you!”

Thayer was arrested and transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility. He’s been charged with Written Threats to Kill, Attempted Premeditated Murder with a Firearm, Possession of a Firearm/Ammunition by a Convicted Felon, Petit Theft and Resisting Arrest without Violence.

Thayer is being held on no bond. It’s unclear if he has retained an attorney to speak on his behalf. Calls placed by Oxygen.com to the Flagler County Sheriff’s office were not immediately returned on Wednesday.
