Woman Accused Of Kidnapping Twin Boys In Ohio Pleads Guilty To Spitting On Indiana Cop Who Booked Her
Nalah Jackson is accused of stealing an Ohio mom's car with her twins Kason and Kyair Thomas inside. She allegedly left Kyair at an airport and was arrested days later in Indiana, where Kason was later found in the stolen car.
The woman accused of kidnapping twin boys during an alleged pre-Christmas carjacking in Ohio has pleaded guilty in Indiana to charges related to her arrest.
Nalah Jackson, 24, pleaded guilty on Wednesday to battery by bodily waste of a public safety officer, according to court records reviewed by Oxygen.com.
Jackson, who was homeless, was arrested in Indianapolis on Dec. 23, according to jail records, on charges that she stole a woman's car in Columbus, Ohio on Dec. 19 and kidnapped twin infants Kason and Kyair Thomas, Oxygen.com previously reported. Kyair was found in the economy parking lot at the Dayton International Airport, which is 70 miles west of Columbus. Kason was ultimately found in the car, which had been abandoned in the parking lot of a Papa Johns in Indianapolis, another 140 miles west of the Dayton airport, Oxygen.com previously reported.
Jackson was charged with battery after spitting on the sheriff's deputy who booked her.
During her initial hearing on Christmas Eve, Jackson was combative, giving her name as "Josphis Hunt" and insisting she wanted to immediately plead guilty and be sentenced, Oxygen.com previously reported.
The magistrate set her bond as $500 cash for the class 6 felony, but informed her that, even if she paid the bond, she would not be released due the hold on her from the state of Ohio. Jackson reportedly began swearing at the magistrate, who ended the hearing and told the clerk the hearing would have to be held again since it hadn't officially been completed.
A second initial hearing was successfully held on Dec. 27, according to court records, and she was assigned a public defender.
Jackson's counsel and her prosecutors ultimately reached a plea agreement on Jan. 11, which was accepted by the courts. Though a class 6 felony under Indiana law is punishable by six to 30 months in prison, with an advisory sentence of 18 months, court records reviewed by Oxygen.com show that Jackson received a one-year (365 day) sentence with 305 days suspended. Credited with the 20 days she'd already served since her incarceration, her projected release date on the battery charges is Jan. 20, according to jail records.
She is still subject to the hold from the state of Ohio, where she faces kidnapping charges in the Thomas case in addition to other charges that were pending before the kidnapping.
She had been released on her own recognizance on Nov. 30 while facing aggravated menacing and anonymous telecommunications harassment charges, but that recognizance bond was revoked on Dec. 22, according to court records reviewed by Oxygen.com.
Two days after her release on the menacing and harassment charges, a warrant for Jackson's arrest was issued in nearby Dublin, Ohio for failure to stop for an accident, driving on a suspended license, failure to maintain distance, reckless operation of a motor vehicle and failure to yield at a red light. A bench warrant for her arrest was issued on Dec. 16.
It's unclear when she might be extradited to face charges in Ohio.
