Texas Father Missing After Leaving Home Early in Morning, with Wife Noticing Something "Atypical”

"I would say that it's atypical for him to leave and not say, 'Hey I'm gonna go for a walk,'" a family spokesperson reportedly said of Colby Richards. "Especially given that he was supposed to go to work that morning."

Friends and family of a Texas man who vanished after leaving his home early Friday morning have been frantically searching for the father-of-two.

Colby Richards, 31, was last seen that morning and is believed to have walked out of his home at Musgrove Place in Spring, Texas, according to a missing person flier put out by the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office.

Richards left his home around 6 a.m. on Friday, his cousin Allison Fox, who is representing the family, told The Courier.

“Usually he would be getting up for work,” Fox said. “Per [Richards' wife] Callie she was waiting [for him] to come back to bed and he didn’t. She noticed it was getting light out and she went downstairs to check on him and he wasn’t downstairs. He sometimes goes into the backyard and he wasn’t there but she noticed the gate was open.”

Fox noted that it was "atypical” for the gate to be open, since Richards and his wife have two young children and pets, with the oddity prompting Callie to call the police.

Callie has said that the family was not going through anything in particular that would have caused Richards to break his routine, Fox said in an interview with The U.S. Sun.

"She's just as surprised as the rest of us," Fox said of Callie. "He just kind of walked out and didn't say anything."

Fox added to the Sun, "I would say that it's atypical for him to leave and not say, 'Hey I'm gonna go for a walk.' Especially given that he was supposed to go to work that morning."

Fox told The Courier that Richards left the house without his cell phone and keys, but that his water bottle was found at the start of a trail.

The missing man would often go for hikes and he meditates, Callie told Fox 26, but she said that he usually does not do these activities before work.

Richards began a new job as a design technician in March, according to Fox, who said that his kids “were his world." The couple share a 3-year-old daughter and 1-year-old son.

"It’s been rough. It’s been rough," Callie told Fox 26. "I can tell they know there’s stuff going on and it’s heavy for them. My daughter knows. Initially, we tried to keep it quiet until we could get more information, but she knows. She’s been asking questions, like morbid questions. She’s very smart. She’s very aware of what’s going on."

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, along with other organizations and volunteers, have been conducting searches for Richards.

The missing person flier describes Richards as standing 6'3", weighing 195 pounds, and having blue eyes and dark blonde hair. He was wearing a t-shirt, black shorts, and grey Under Armour shoes when he left his home.

The sheriff's office is asking anyone who has any information on Richards to call them at (936) 760-5800, select option three and and refer to case #23A151879.
