A Texas man accused of murdering an 11-year-old boy, whose body was found in a car trunk in February, has been indicted.

Corey Trumbull allegedly used his hands or a blunt instrument to fatally strike Logan Cline, prosecutors said, according to Wichita Falls newspaper, the Times Record News. A grand jury indicted the 31-year-old on capital murder charges of a minor on Wednesday.

Trumbull, along with the boy’s mother, Stormy Loraine Johnson, 37, are charged with tampering with evidence, and have been charged with a series of chid sex crimes and child abuse in Las Vegas.

Prior to their arrest, the couple, including Johnson’s daughter, lived out of a pickup truck and hotels, drifting between Texas and Nevada, where they panhandled on the Las Vegas Strip, arrest reports indicate. They supposedly met online. Trumbull, a suspected drug user who authorities say has a history of expressing white supremacist beliefs, once allegedly groomed an underage girl for a polyamorous relationship with his girlfriend, local media reported.

In February, Las Vegas police responded to a domestic disturbance related to the couple. Johnson claimed Trumbull had beaten and strangled her using a metal dog chain, authorities said, the Times Record News reported last month. The woman reportedly sustained a number of broken bones.

A day later, her young son’s body was discovered in the trunk of a Ford on the 1200 block of Kenley Avenue near a Wichita Falls highway motel.

The 11-year-old’s family called the child’s death “tragic,” on a GoFundMe page set up in his memory. The boy’s father is a member of the U.S. Army and is currently stationed in Afghanistan, the page stated.

Friends and family gathered for a candlelight vigil for Cline last month.

“We’re just doing our best to just remember Logan and of course, his age is kind of difficult and the things we heard on the news and stuff like that, just basically doing anything we can do to say a prayer,” Pastor Jonathan Ochoa also told NBC affiliate KFDX-TV.

One of the boy’s teachers, who previously suspected the boy’s family life was troubled,  described him as a “sweet kid.”

“You could tell he wanted to try and make friends, but we knew something was wrong, that things weren’t necessarily right for him,” Carrie Pawloski told KFDX-TV.

The Chillicothe teacher said her school contacted child protective services a number of times leading up to Cline’s death.

“We contacted CPS four different times, our school did, but by the time they could get anything done, they had already moved on, you could tell they knew what they were doing,” Pawloski added.

Johnson and Trumbull also face three counts of sexual assault of a minor, two counts of lewd acts, child porn and child abuse or neglect charges in Nevada, the Times Record News reported.

Trumbull also faces kidnapping and a pair of domestic battery charges related to incidents in Las Vegas, according to the Times Record News. His bond has been set at $2 million in the capital murder case, police stated. Johnson is also in custody at a Clark County jailhouse.
