Car Crash Saves Couple Pushing Stroller On Crosswalk

Street video recorded from a Phoenix, Arizona intersection shows the moment when a Chevy Cruze collided into an alleged drunk driver who allegedly blew through a red light — shielding the lives of a couple crossing a street with a child in a stroller.

The pileup occurred on the night of Oct. 15, along the busy intersection at North 53rd Avenue and Indian School Road in the Parkway Village neighborhood, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

In the 13-second closed-circuit clip, two people start making their way across a multi-lane intersection while navigating a stroller.

After taking eight paces, a dark grey Jeep suddenly darts through the red light, triggering the flashing pulse of a red light camera.

Just as the Jeep is about to mow down the pedestrians, a Chevrolet Cruze crosses into the frame and smashes into the SUV, sending up into the air and off to the side.

The impact apparently came within inches of the couple and their child.

Still alive, the shaken couple is seen going from a slow gait up to a jog in order to reach the other side of the street.

The death-dodging incident was described by police as a miraculous moment.

“An angel in the form of a Chevy [Cruze] may have saved the lives of a couple pushing a stroller through a Phoenix crosswalk at 53rd Ave & Indian School,” the department wrote in a tweet.

Ernesto Oveso, 23, was later taken into custody and identified as the Jeep driver, according to FOX 10 Phoenix

The driver and a woman passenger allegedly hopped out of the Jeep to flee the scene, according to the station.

While cops managed to run down Oveso, whom police referred to as the “red light runner.” He was slapped with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, leaving the scene of an accident, violating his probation and DUI, jail records show.
