Adam Montgomery Arrested In Harmony Montgomery Case

Missing New Hampshire girl Harmony Montgomery’s father and stepmother have been indicted in relation to her case, a week after her father’s girlfriend was found dead in a hotel.

A Hillsborough County grand jury indicted both Adam Montgomery, 30, and Kayla Montgomery, 31, on March 21, in connection with Harmony, who vanished in 2019 at the age of 5, the Associated Press reports

Adam was indicted on a felony charge of second-degree assault, for allegedly striking Harmony in the face in July 2019. He was also arrested on two charges of endangering the welfare of a child. Meanwhile, Kayla, who is estranged from Adam, was cited on a felony charge of theft by deception, for allegedly lying to the Health Department about Harmony being in her home from November 2019 to June 2, 2021, so that she could receive food stamp benefits.

The indictment came days after Adam’s girlfriend was found dead. The remains of Kelsey Small, 27, were found on March 13 at a hotel in New Hampshire, police told WMUR. Investigators are not considering her death suspicious. According to the New Hampshire Union Leader, she was found dead in Manchester and her cause of death is pending.

When Adam was arrested on New Year’s Eve in connection with Harmony's disappearance, both he and Small were living in a car. Small had not been charged with any crime.

Harmony hasn't been seen since late 2019. She was not reported missing until late last year, when her mother, Crystal Sorey, did so. Adam Montgomery had been given custody of the girl while Sorey was in drug treatment in 2018, after which he allegedly cut the child off from her mother.

Both Adam and Kayla pleaded not guilty and both have claimed that Harmony was living with Sorey when she vanished, according to the Associated Press. Sorey claims that she last saw Harmony during a video chat around Easter of 2019.

Kayla is due back in court on April 7 while Adam Montgomery is scheduled for a June 28 court date.
