Hope Solo's dog is in "critical condition" after being shot earlier this week, recent social media posts from Solo said.

The U.S. soccer star, who owns five dogs as well as other pets, broke the news in an Instagram post on Thursday. Alongside a photo of herself and husband Jerramy Stevens posing with their five doberman pinschers, Solo shared that one of her beloved pets, "Conan," had been shot the previous night.

"Our magnificent dog Conan ... is in critical condition after being shot last night," her caption read. "It’s hard news to share, but harder to make sense of this heinous act."

Solo did not elaborate on the circumstances of the shooting or say who was responsible, but went on to thank the veterinarians who provided care for the animal after he was injured. She later shared that the beloved pet sustained the wound in one of his front legs.

"Jerramy and I are shocked and heartbroken, but we want to say thank you to Wilkes Veterinary Hospital and their staff for rushing Conan into emergency care, as well as their COVID-19 care practices," she wrote.

Solo suggested that she and her husband would be looking into getting Conan a replacement limb if needed. "We‘ve heard that there are developments in canine prosthetics and would love any information about getting Conan a new front leg!" she wrote.

In a related series of tweets, Solo posted an additional photo of Conan and called the dog the "best of the bunch."

Solo, 38, is an Olympic gold medalist, while her husband is a former NFL player. The two welcomed twins, a boy and a girl, in March.

In addition to their five dogs, the couple also keeps chickens and pigs, as well as a turkey named Zeus, according to a recent Elle Magazine feature.
