88-Year-Old Man Allegedly Murders Roommate

Following years of apparent contemplation, an 88-year-old southwest Missouri man allegedly murdered a man he disliked — his roommate.

Larry Shaw has been charged with first-degree murder following the fatal shooting of 52-year-old Kenny Barnes at a home in Ozark.

Investigators said Shaw lived with Barnes for six or seven years. Court documents indicate that Shaw told investigators he was tired Barnes’ vulgar language and how he treated him, The Springfield News-Leader reported.

Police said Shaw told them he'd had enough after Barnes told him to do some chores Wednesday morning. He allegedly got a handgun and waited in a recliner for three hours before the shooting, court documents said. The gun had been stored between cushions of the couch, according to a probable cause statement obtained by Christian County Headliner News.

Court documents state that Shaw told police he was “kind of tickled” that he shot Barnes. Furthermore, he expressed no apparent remorse in police interviews following the shooting. The Springfield News-Leader reports that Shaw allegedly told police that he wanted to urinate on Barnes' grave. A detective wrote that Larry allegedly made it clear that he "was glad he was dead," according to the County-Headliner.

Shaw appears to be possibly smirking in his mugshot. Police say Shaw shot Barnes once in the chest, the Headliner News reports. They found Barnes lying dead outside of the home. It's unclear if the two are related or were anything beyond roommates.

Shaw is being held in the Christian County Jail without bond. He does not have an attorney listed for this case.
