An Alabama mother has been ordered to serve the equivalent of multiple life sentences for sexually abusing her two daughters for years along with her husband.

Lisa Marie Lesher, 41, was sentenced to 723 years in prison on Monday for multiple heinous sexual crimes, the Decatur Daily reported. She was convicted last month of rape, sodomy, sexual torture, and sexual abuse of her daughter and stepdaughter. She got 99 years for each count of first-degree rape, first-degree sodomy, and sexual torture she was hit with and she received additional years for the sodomy and sexual abuse charges.

Lisa and her husband, Michael William Lesher, were arrested in 2017 on rape, sexual torture, and incest charges for abusing the girls as far back as 2007, the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office stated in 2017. A school resource officer had noticed an injury to one of the girl’s necks in 2007, the Tuscaloosa News reported last year, and the victims reported the crimes. But while the abuse began years ago when the girls were underage, it wasn’t until they were in their 20s and ready to testify that charges were finally brought forward.

Michael, 54, was sentenced to 438 years in prison for his role in the sexual abuse last year. He was convicted of rape, sodomy, sexual abuse, and incest in a case that prosecutors called one of the most disturbing they’ve ever seen.

“In my 37 years as a prosecutor, this is singularly the most disturbing case of child sexual assault that I have ever tried,” Morgan County Chief Assistant District Attorney Paul Matthews said at the time, according to the Tuscaloosa News report.

During his trial, jurors heard a recorded interview of Michael claiming that one of the girls, who was under 12 years old at the time, was a willing participant of the abuse.

“Seeking justice for these victims became the goal of the Morgan County District Attorney’s Office,” Matthews said at the time, according to the Tuscaloosa News report. “They have waited far too long for their day in court, and I am glad that we were finally able to give them the opportunity to tell about the abuse that they suffered at the hands of their father.”

Prosecutors seemed equally elated about Lisa’s sentence.

“We are thrilled with the sentence in this case,”  Prosecutor Courtney Schellack said in a statement obtained by Alabama outlet WIAT. “The victims suffered for years living with these monsters, and have suffered with the consequences of their actions for over a decade. The sentence, in this case, was well deserved, and gives the victims a sense of closure.”
