Miles Teller and his wife, Keleigh Sperry Teller, claimed last week that he was attacked in a Hawaii restaurant by two strangers — but a lawyer has now said that the men are known to the couple, who he alleges owe money for wedding planning services.

Sperry Teller, 28, stated on an Instagram story on Friday that “Miles was jumped by 2 men we have never met after they trapped him in a bathroom. It seems these same men have done this to many people and we appreciate your support Maui. This is now a criminal investigation,” People reported.

Sperry Teller also addressed a TMZ story in her Instagram story, claiming, "The story reported about Miles being punched in the face by @TMZ over 'money' is completely false.”

TMZ has also claimed that one of the two men who allegedly attacked the 34-year-old "Whiplash" actor has complained that Teller owes him $60,000 for wedding planning services related to the couple’s 2019 nuptials in Maui.

Teller, however, maintained in a tweet that he had “never met them before in my life.”

Tre Lovell, an attorney for one of the men who allegedly attacked Teller, told E! News on Sunday that his client’s wife helped plan their wedding.

"My clients are considering legal action based upon the incident as well as on the parties' previous business dealings,” Lovell said in a statement.

Lovell has not immediately responded to Oxygen.com’s request for comment. The Maui Police Department also did not immediately respond to Oxygen.com’s request for comment.

No one has yet to be arrested for the incident. A spokesperson for the Maui Police Department told People last week that they "responded to a report of an assault that occurred at a West Maui restaurant involving a male victim and one responsible party. The incident is currently under investigation; no further information is available at this time."

The Tellers have not publicly posted any other comment on the incident; both of their social media accounts are full of smiling photos from their recent vacation.
