Lawyer Punched In Face, Arrested After Allegedly Strangling His Girlfriend At Bowling Alley
Pano DuPree was previously arrested after allegedly punching and biting a police officer who ordered him to get out of a car.
A South Carolina lawyer was given a black eye after a bystander allegedly saw him strangling his girlfriend in a bowling alley and intervened earlier this month.
Shortly after arriving at Charleston’s Ashley Lanes bowling alley on March 19, Pano Michael DuPree, 58, spotted his girlfriend there and approached her. The two got into an argument that aparently quickly escalated, according to an incident report obtained by Oxygen.com.
When a bystander allegedly saw DuPree place his girlfriend in a chokehold while pulling at her hair, she ran up and punched him in the face, according to the report. DuPree fell to the ground, allegedly still gripping the victim’s hair and tearing out “a large number of hairs."
A responding officer arrived to find DuPree lying on the ground and talking with bowling alley staff. He was taken to a hospital for evaluation, then arrested, according to the report. He faces one charge of third-degree assault and battery.
The lawyer has had previous brushes with the law involving violence. His license temporarily suspended in 2013 after he allegedly punched and bit a police offer while on vacation in Utah, according to a police report obtained by the local newspaper The Post and Courier. Cops pulled over a car in which DuPree was riding and accused the driver of being drunk. While the driver and an officer were speaking, DuPree allegedly began interrupting, then refused to exit the car when the officer ordered him out.
The officer shot DuPree with a Taser, and DuPree allegedly punched him in the mouth and bit at his arm before being subdued, according to the report. He was arrested and charged with two counts of assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness.
DuPree was also arrested in 2003 after allegedly fighting with two men who tried to intervene in an argument he was having with his wife, according to the Post and Courier. He allegedly struggled against officers while they arrested him in that incident.
DuPree specializes in criminal defense and personal injury litigation, according to his website. He was released on $1,087 bond following his most recent arrest, and his next court date is set for May 5, CBS-17 reports.
A representative at DuPree’s law office said in a phone interview with Oxygen.com that he would not be commenting on this story.
