An arrest has been made in connection with the murder of Kathleen West who was found dead outside her Calera, Alabama home. Her own husband, William Jeffrey West, 44, was arrested on Thursday has been charged with her January murder. Calera Police Chief Sean Lemley said at a news conference, according to the Associated Press, that "he was the suspect from the very beginning.”
It’s unclear if West has an attorney that can speak on his behalf at this time. His bond was set at $500,000, the Associated Press reports.
The 42-year-old mother’s body was found by her neighbor last month, WIAT-TV reports. She was discovered partially nude, according to AL.com. A witness reported seeing her wearing only a sports bra and bleeding from her head.
Kathleen worked as an adult model, under the moniker Kitty Kat West, on her own subscription-based website, according to AL.com. The woman, whose style some have compared to Marilyn Monroe, leaves behind a 12-year-old daughter.
West works as a campus officer. The couple was caught on surveillance video shopping inside a liquor store and buying alcohol just hours before her death. Both appear to be in a jovial mood. Kathleen is smiling and laughing and her husband even gives her a playful pat on her behind.
“They came in, it looked like they were on their date night," Stacey Oglesby, the liquor store clerk who rang them up told Inside Edition. "They bought a bottle of Jameson and a bottle of Lucid absinthe and made their purchase and went on their way. Everything was normal."
Rumors about her death have been circulated around the tiny town. Calera has a population of just 3,158.
Police said this week that it took awhile for an arrest to be made because the crime scene didn’t match a standard domestic murder, the Associated Press reports. Lemley said at the press conference that William knew about his wife’s adult website and wouldn’t say if that played a role in the killing. He said that the couple’s daughter wasn’t home at the time of the murder.
“It’s a tragedy all the way around for everyone involved,” Lemley said.
Sandie Kay is a member of The Cougar Club, a group where women over 35 share photos. Kathleen was also a member of that group.
"I wish for everyone to stop trying to connect online photos to her passing,” Kay told Inside Edition. "It is not like that. It doesn't necessarily mean indiscretion. They're just pictures!"
