A body was spotted floating in a North Carolina lake not far from where a fashion blogger may have gone missing, just days after the authorities called off a search in the same area.

Vatsla Watkins, 39, vanished on March 18 after leaving her home early that morning in a silver, 2004 Mercedes-Benz C230, according to the National Center for the Missing and Endangered. The car was found a few days later on a pier, prompting a search of Lake Wylie.

On Sunday, a boater in Lake Wylie called 911 to report that they spotted a body floating in the lake, not far from the pier and just days after the search for Watkins in the area was called off, WCNC Charlotte reports.

"They told me not to touch it," the boater, who has only been identified as Tyler, told WSOC-TV. "I wanted to pull it out and do CPR or something. I wanted to help and possibly save a life."

The body has been retrieved from the lake but not yet been identified. The cause of death is still under investigation.

Vatsla Watkins

Watkins is a mother of two and wife of former Mecklenburg County GOP chair Curtis Watkins. She blogs about DIY fashion, offering instructions and tutorials to people who want to make their own clothing.

Watkins is described as being 5 foot 4 with black hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a black lightweight jacket and blue jeans.

Anyone with information on the case is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Detective J.L. Tuttle at 704-336-8340.
