A missing 4-year-old girl from North Carolina has been found alive more than a thousand miles away in Texas by FBI agents conducting a sex-trafficking sting and now investigators say her mother offered her up to that ring.

Aubriana Recinos, 4, was found safe in Lewisville, Texas on Friday, the Fayetteville Police Department in North Carolina stated. She was reunited with her father, Mario Recinos, WRAL in Raleigh reports.

Her mother, Carmen Lowe, is now under arrest. The 23-year-old woman has been charged with prostitution, theft under $1,000, and having an out of state warrant. She was arrested Thursday in New Orleans, one day before her daughter was found. Lowe was not with her daughter at that time.

Recinos has been missing since late May after Lowe allegedly failed to return the child to her father’s custody after a visitation.

“Lowe is believed to have traveled to New Jersey and Louisiana after leaving North Carolina with Aubriana Recinos,” police said.

At some point, the little girl was allegedly handed off to sex traffickers.

“The child was pretty much given to a pimp, an associate of a pimp or family of the pimp for keeping,”  Maj. Robert Ramirez with Fayetteville police told WNCN in Raleigh. “The individuals involved are not cooperating.”

He added that the little girl was “recovered at a house of individuals that were involved in human trafficking activities. It is a ring, it’s a human trafficking ring that the FBI was investigating and these individuals have other children as well.”

It’s not clear when police believe the mother gave her daughter to the ring.

As for now, both the girl’s family and the community can breathe a sigh of relief that she is out of harm’s way.

“Going on 53 days, it’s been hard,” Mario Recinos told WNCN after his daughter was returned to him in Texas. They are now headed back home to North Carolina. “We didn’t know where she was at.”

It’s not clear if Lowe has a lawyer who can speak on her behalf at this time.
