A registered sex offender in San Diego is behind bars for allegedly kidnapping a toddler from her home and molesting her, according to Fox 5 San Diego.

Francisco Diaz, 46, was arrested after the father of his alleged victim confronted him outside his home in the Oak Park neighborhood of San Diego Saturday morning, the news station reported.

Officers arriving on the scene — who had to physically restrain the two men after the confrontation between them became physical, according to Fox 5 — booked Diaz on charges of kidnapping, threatening death, sodomy of a minor, and five other felony counts, records show.

Diaz is a registered sex offender, according to California’s Megan’s Law offender registry. He was convicted in 2007 on a charge of molesting or annoying a child, records show.

The father of the little girl discovered the horrifying assault when he found his 3-year-old daughter partially dressed in the family living room. When he asked her why she wasn’t wearing all her clothes, she told him a man had taken her through a window and touched her, according to the news station.

Speaking on the condition that the station withhold his identity, the father told the station that he initially thought his daughter, who’s potty training, might have peed her pants. But it quickly became clear that something much worse had happened, he said.

“I noticed my window was broken into and my blinds were all over the floor, my curtains were off,” he told Fox 5 San Diego, his voice trembling. “She showed me with her hands where he touched her, and she said he hit her on her butt really hard.”

When he asked his daughter who had attacked her, the toddler pointed out Diaz, who lives next door to the family, according to Fox 5. He angrily confronted the alleged molester outside Diaz’s home, and the confrontation soon turned physical, according to Fox 5, requiring the help of police to break it up.

The little girl was taken to a local hospital for treatment, according to the news station.

According to the father, it was the kidnapping suspect’s wife who returned the toddler to her home.

The young girl’s dad told the news station that he was still in shock that his neighbor, a man he said his family trusted, had allegedly violated his daughter.

"I don't get it. I'm so shocked and so scared for my kid," he told the news station. "I talked to him everyday. I gave him mone.y ... Everyone in my family is comfortable with him. I can't believe it."

Diaz is currently being held without bail at San Diego Central Jail, and is due back in court on Wednesday, according to online records.

Neighbors of the alleged victim and of Diaz, whose house is located a stone’s throw from nearby Oak Park Elementary School, told NBC 7 San diego that they were horrified to learn that a sex offender lived so close to them and to an elementary school, but declined to speak on the record for fear of retaliation, the news station reported.
