A man operating an unlicensed day care center in his home has been charged with sexual abuse of a child.

Riverside Police arrested Hubert David Edgin, 49, Friday and charged him with multiple counts of sexual abuse of a minor under the age of 10 after one of the children he cared for accused him of assaulting her.

The alleged victim, who was described by police as being a "young child", had attended the day care center for about two years at the time of the arrest, according to a statement posted on social media from police.

"The abuse continued until a few days ago when the victim told her family of the allegations, naming Mr. Edgin as the lone suspect," police said.

The family notified police of the suspected abuse and detectives from the Riverside Police Department’s Sexual Assault - Child Abuse Unit (SACA) launched an investigation into the claims.

Police described the day care center as "family run" although it had apparently not received proper licensing.

They believe the suspect may have come in contact with other young children at his church or other activities as well and are now seeking help from the public to learn more about Edgin and his activities. Anyone with information that may be relevant to the case is being asked to contact police.

Edgin was arrested at his home at about 4:30 p.m. on Friday, according to KTLA 5.  He was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center, where he remains in custody on a $1,000,000 bail, police said.
