A mother of five children, who has long been embroiled in a custody battle, has gone missing in an affluent area of Connecticut.

Jennifer Dulos, 50, was last seen on Friday evening driving a 2017 black Chevrolet Suburban in New Canaan, according to the New Canaan Police Department. That vehicle was found the same day but with no trace of the mother.

A wooded area near Dulos’ home was being searched by state troopers, local police and dogs on Tuesday, according to the Connecticut Post.

Dulos filed for divorce from her husband Fotis Dulos, who operates a construction business called The Fore Group, in 2017. The couple had been married for 13 years and had five children who range in age between 8 and 13. The missing mom reportedly filed an emergency order for full custody the same year she filed for divorce, the Connecticut Post reports. That was denied. In 2017, Jennifer abruptly left the town of Farmington, where the family lived, and moved to New Canaan with the children, according to the Stamford Advocate.

A hearing is scheduled Wednesday regarding the safety of the children, the Stamford Advocate reports. A similar hearing was scheduled for last Wednesday, but was postponed, the Hartford Courant reports.

The missing mom’s children appeared to be at the heart of her life, according to her concerned friends and family.

“Those who know Jennifer know her to be a devoted mother; an extremely thoughtful, reliable, and organized woman; and attest that she would never, ever, disappear when she is responsible for the lives of five loving and energetic children,” Dulos’ family and friends said in a statement, obtained by NBC Connecticut. “Jennifer is gentle, kind, intelligent, and funny, and above all she prioritizes the health and happiness of her children. She and the children have been embraced by the New Canaan Country School community, where they have made good friends and are active in athletics and arts.”

In an apparent bio on a Patch site, Jennifer describes herself as a former writer from New York “doing journalism, essays, plays and screenplays, and is currently finishing a novel.” She has a bachelor’s degree from Brown University and a masters in writing from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts.

Anyone with information about Jennifer Dulos’s disappearance or who saw her or her car on Friday are asked to contact New Canaan Police at 203-594-3544.
