An Oklahoma teacher has admitted to having sex with a 15-year-old student multiple times, including during a teacher walkout protesting school funds and salaries, officials said.
Keri Hoffman, 35, confessed the teenage love affair to her husband before surrendering to the Clinton Police Department on Sunday, according to KOTV in Tulsa.
Hoffman started her sexual relationship with the boy on March 30 and used Facebook messenger to arrange meetings for sex, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation said.
Earlier this month, Hoffman took a group of students, including the alleged victim, to the state Capitol to participate in a teacher walkout that received national attention. Hoffman picked up the boy first and dropped him off last, "having sex with him each time," police said.
Police also spoke to the alleged victim, who corroborated Hoffman’s story.
Hoffman teaches algebra at Clinton Middle School and has been a teacher since 2011. The 15-year-old victim was one of her students, according to KOTV in Tulsa.
Hoffman has been charged with facilitating sexual conduct or communication with minor by use of technology. That charge alone could result in up to a decade in jail. She also faces two counts of second-degree rape, and each count could result in 15 years in prison. Additionally, she’s charged with pattern of criminal offenses, which could add another two years. Her bond was set to $30,000.
It's unclear if she has a lawyer or what her employment status is since the arrest.
