Mom Allegedly Stabs 11-Year-Old Daughter To Death Because She Thought Her ‘Different’ Smile Meant She Was Having Sex
Rosa Rivera stabbed her daughter Aleyda 15 times in the back, then drove her to the hospital where she was pronounced dead, authorities say.
A Florida woman is accused of brutally stabbing her 11-year-old daughter in the back 15 times because she thought the young girl was having sex.
Rosa Alcides Rivera, 28, allegedly stabbed her daughter Aleyda Rivera Sunday morning and then drove around with her in the car before eventually taking the young girl to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
She allegedly told authorities she attacked her daughter to “prevent her from having sexual relationships with men” and believed her daughter was now in heaven, according to Orlando Weekly.
"Rivera stated she believed her daughter was having sex with men because she smiled 'different,'" an arrest report obtained by the outlet said.
The incident began around 7:30 a.m. Sunday when Rivera drove to a relative’s home and accused her mother’s boyfriend of having a “sexual relationship” with her 11-year-old daughter. Her daughter reportedly denied that she was having a sexual relationship with the man.
"There was some discussion with the folks inside, some accusations," Sheriff John Mina said, according to WFTV. "At one point she left and then did come back."
When she returned to the home, Mina said she had already killed her daughter and took the young girl’s body out of the car, placed it on the ground and then loaded it back into the car.
Rivera took her daughter’s body to an area hospital around 10:45 a.m. that morning.
“Security advised a white female drove up to the valet area (and) was argumentative and asking for medical assistance for a female passenger,” Orlando Police Lt. Diego Toruno said.
After hospital staff determined the Aleyda was dead, police said Rivera became combative and pulled out a bloody purple pocket knife.
Rivera also had a superficial cut to her own arm. When hospital staff asked her whether she had more injuries, she reportedly told them, “My baby is gone.”
Initially, Rivera told detectives her daughter had been stabbed by a man, who later dropped the knife and fled the area by foot, but they say she eventually confessed to the stabbing herself.
“Rivera stated she stabbed her daughter while in the car, and while stabbing her she was attempting to make her more comfortable,” the arrest report said, according to the Associated Press.
Despite her belief that the young girl was sexually active, Rivera told authorities she never witnessed her daughter having sex with anyone and that her daughter had never confessed being sexually active.
"We believe that part of the investigation is unfounded," Mina said, according to Orlando Weekly. "We are looking into that but don’t believe it to be credible, although we are still continuing the investigation."
Rivera has been charged with first-degree murder and is being held at the Orange County jail.
