Sean Penn’s son and his girlfriend were arrested on drug possession charges in Nebraska on Wednesday afternoon.

Hopper Penn is the 24-year-old son of actors Sean and Robin Wright. Both Hopper and Hopper’s actor girlfriend Uma Von Wittkamp, 26, were stopped by a trooper on a Nebraska interstate. Von Wittkamp was driving.

Police said that after they detected “drug activity” and found probable cause to search the car, a trooper found 14 grams of marijuana, four amphetamine pills and 3 grams of mushrooms. Both were subsequently booked on felony drug possession charges. Von Wittkamp was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance and Hopper was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana.  Both were released on bond a day after their arrest.

Hopper has spoken publicly about his struggles with substance abuse in the past. In a 2017 interview with The UK’s Evening Standard, Hopper said that he began doing meth after his parents’ divorce and a skateboarding accident.

“I was doing a lot of stuff, but meth was the main one that brought me down. I went to rehab because I woke up in hospital and my dad said, ‘Rehab? Or bus bench?’ I was like, ‘I’ll take the bed,’” Hopper said.

Hopper has made appearances in movies like "Puppy Love" and "War Machine." He also made an appearance in "Family Guy." Von Wittkamp starred in a 2015 film short entitled “Endings, Inc” alongside Hopper.
