Seven people were shot and wounded at a Southern California nightclub during a party themed on the horror movie franchise “The Purge.”

The shooting was reported early Monday at a nightclub called Sevilla in Riverside, according to a police statement.

“People started falling to the ground, and I thought people were fighting or dancing at first,” an unidentified witness told CBS Los Angeles. “And I turn around, and then people started shooting and then I ran behind the bar. … I heard automatic gunshots, there was like 10 in a row.”

Officers found two victims with gunshot wounds inside the nightclub and they were taken to a hospital for treatment. Five other victims later arrived at local hospitals for treatment of wounds. None of the victims' wounds are life-threatening.

Investigators think the shooting may have been triggered after a fight, Riverside Public Information Officer Ryan Railsback told KTLA.

The investigation is being handled by the department's robbery-homicide and gang intelligence units.

An Eventbrite invitation called the party “THE PURGE AT SEVILLAS.” The premise of the movie series “The Purge” is a future where all crime, including murder, is made legal one day a year.

No suspects have been identified for the shooting at Sevilla and there is no description of any suspects.
