Texas rapper Yella Beezy was hospitalized over the weekend after being shot multiple times.

Yella Beezy, born Deandre Conway, was driving down the Sam Rayburn Tollway in Lewisville early Sunday when an unidentified assailant pulled up in a car beside him and fired more than 12 times, striking Beezy three times, The Dallas Morning News reports. Police found Beezy at around 3:30 a.m. and he was transported to a local hospital, according to the outlet.

The rapper’s managers have also confirmed to The Dallas Morning News that Beezy was shot, while police told CBS’ Dallas affiliate DFW that Beezy was conscious and breathing.

Capt. Dan Rochelle told The Dallas Morning News that the motive behind Beezy’s shooting is still unclear, and they have yet to make any arrests in relation to the incident.

The rapper took to Instagram on Tuesday to share a video of himself in a hospital bed, writing in the caption, “Im in a blessed position because ima blessed individual. God got the last say so Dallas tell the world we on @bet .... we made it !!!!! #Thatsonmebaby.”

Beezy is a steadily rising star, with his song “That’s On Me” currently holding the 88th spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, Rolling Stone reports. The rapper also opened for Beyonce and Jay-Z’s “On The Run II” tour stop in Arlington, Texas just last month, according to the outlet.

Beezy’s family friend Dietric Alexander described Beezy to CBS DFW as a “real humble, real nice guy.”

“Very likable and funny type of guy,” he said. “But he just seemed to be real happy with the success he was having and enjoying life at the moment.”
