A little girl in Louisiana allegedly endured years of beatings and rapes before she ended up in a mental health facility and was able to report being abused. Now five people have been arrested.
The girl is now 12 years old but the abuse allegedly began when she was just 4. Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s spokesman Capt. Jason Rivarde said the girl told them she was repeatedly raped, beaten and starved by 53-year-old Tilman Carolise, 66-year-old Harrington Matherne and 19-year-old Farrel Tregre.
The girl said 46-year-old Tina Tregre and 40-year-old Terri Tregre acted as lookouts during the sexual assaults and also physically abused her. The rapes allegedly took place inside a home in Harvey, WVUE in New Orleans reports.
The victim is related to Carolise. Tina Tregre is Carolise’s girlfriend and Terri is Tina’s sister. Farrel Tregre is Tina’s son. Matherne is both Tina’s ex-husband and Farrel’s father, according to NOLA.com.
A detective testified during a preliminary hearing on Tuesday that Carolise raped and beat the girl repeatedly, in addition to withholding food and water from her. Carolise is also accused of cutting her and forcing her to sleep in a dog kennel. He allegedly threatened to shoot the child if she ever told anyone about the abuse.
During one alleged incident, Carolise even convinced the alleged child that they were going on a fishing trip only to bind her to a tree and rape her once they got to a secluded wooded area. The victim told investigators that Farrel, the youngest suspect, would allegedly cry and ask the child for forgiveness after he raped her, WVUE reports.
Carolise has been booked with aggravated rape of a victim under 13, two counts of cruelty to a juvenile and aggravated assault with a firearm, according to Jefferson Parish Sheriff's jail records. His bond has been set at $850,000. The firearm charge is for the alleged shooting threat he made against the girl.
Tina Tregre is booked on a $350,000 bond for first-degree rape of a victim under 13 and cruelty to a juvenile while her son Farrel has been charged with first-degree rape of a victim under the age of 13. Farrel Tregre is in jail on a $500,000 bond.
Terri Tregre has been charged with being a principal to first-degree rape of a victim under 13 and cruelty to a juvenile. She’s being held on a $350,00 bond.
Matherne has also been charged with first-degree rape and he’s being held on $500,000 bond.
It’s not clear if any of the five have lawyers who can speak on their behalf at this time. All suspects were still behind bars as of Friday morning.
