Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter and member of the critically acclaimed R&B/ pop female group Destiny’s Child, Michelle Williams is a force to be reckoned with.Born and raised in Rockford, Illinois, Michelle’s passion for music began as a young child singing in her church choir. After two years at Illinois State University as a criminal justice major, Michelle opted out of college to tour as a background vocalist for R&B singer Monica and in 1999 she became a member of Destiny’s Child. Their string of hit singles included “Say My Name,” “Independent Women Part I,” “Survivor” and “Bootylicious,” among others. The success spurred album sales of over 50 million records worldwide, three Grammy wins, as well as a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Michelle released her debut solo album in 2002 which reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Gospel Albums chart and after Destiny’s Child formally disbanded in 2006, she segued back to R&B/pop/dance with her album Unexpected. Between recording projects, Michelle made her theatrical stage debut in 2003 in the title role of the hit Broadway musical “Aida” and has since appeared in multiple productions including “The Color Purple,” “Chicago” and most recently “Fela!” Her latest album, Journey to Freedom is set to release in the fall of 2014. Michelle takes us on her faith filled journey with the fresh new single Say Yes” featuring Beyoncé and Kelly Rowlandthat is poised to be the go to “feel good” inspirational song of the summer.
