Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter and member of the critically acclaimed R&B/ pop female group Destiny’s Child, Michelle Williams is a force to be reckoned with.Born and raised in Rockford, Illinois, Michelle’s passion for music began as a young child singing in her church choir. After two years at Illinois State University as a criminal justice major, Michelle opted out of college to tour as a background vocalist for R&B singer Monica and in 1999 she became a member of Destiny’s Child. Their string of hit singles included “Say My Name,” “Independent Women Part I,” “Survivor” and “Bootylicious,” among others. The success spurred album sales of over 50 million records worldwide, three Grammy wins, as well as a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Michelle released her debut solo album in 2002 which reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Gospel Albums chart and after Destiny’s Child formally disbanded in 2006, she segued back to R&B/pop/dance with her album Unexpected.
