Who was behind dozens of terrifying murders that haunted the state of Louisana in the late '90s and early 2000s? The answer was shocking.

Oxygen True Crime, the home of high quality true crime programming, examines the 12 years between 1992 and 2004 where more than three dozen women were preyed upon and brutally murdered in all corners of Louisiana’s capital city in a brand new two-night special, “Serial Killer Capital: Baton Rouge.”

Airing Saturday, December 10 at 9pm ET/PT with a two hour-special and continuing Sunday, December 11 at 9pm ET/PT, the gripping special details the long and complicated investigation, as law enforcement searched for a pattern amongst the murders and answers the question: Was there one serial killer or several serial killers?

Here's what to know: The beautiful city of Baton Rouge was paralyzed by fear for nearly a decade as 36 women were murdered in erratic and unpredictable ways throughout the city. As serial killers walked free, the horrific murders created confusion and inconsistencies with no pattern or matching victimology. With thousands of false leads and dozens of false suspects, police struggled to profile and pinpoint a killer behind the spree of vicious attacks.

Investigators followed dead end after dead end, but after a terrifying interrogation with a serial killer, combined with uncovered evidence, it was finally revealed that there was not only one serial killer, but multiple unrelated, overlapping murderers stalking the bayou throughout the same period. The three-hour special features families of victims speaking for the first time, first-hand survivor accounts, and interviews with law enforcement who eventually found justice for many of the murdered women.

“Serial Killer Capital: Baton Rouge” is produced by Jupiter Entertainment with Patrick Reardon, Deborah Allen, Jeff Collins, and George Plamondon as Executive Producers and Dale Fisher as Co-Executive Producer.
