A woman in Louisiana who suspected her doctor of molesting her used a hidden camera to secretly record the alleged abuse, leading to the doctor’s arrest.
Police in Gretna, Louisiana arrested Dr. James Dyess, 57, on July 12 on two counts of sexual battery and one count of simple battery, The New Orleans Advocate reports.
The 35-year-old woman, who was not been identified, began seeing Dyess after hurting her back in a car accident and being referred to Dyess by her attorney, according to The Advocate.
Police Chief Arthur Lawson told the outlet that the woman felt that Dyess touched her sexually during the initial examination, and secretly recorded her next consultation with Dyess by hiding a cellphone in her purse, positioning her bag so that Dyess’ actions would be caught on camera.
According to Lawson, the cellphone video shows Dyess touching the woman’s breasts and crotch area.
The woman brought the video in to police and Dyess, who practices internal medicine and only sees patients referred to him by attorneys, was arrested at his practice, the New Orleans Times-Picayune reports. He was released that day on $20,500 bond.
Dyess and his attorney, Brian Capitelli, have both declined to comment, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune.
