Zara Holland, also known as Miss Great Britain since 2015, was stripped of her title for having sex on a reality show.
As a contestant on the UK reality show Love Island, she was placed with 12 single people on an island in an attempt to find love. Well, on this week's episode in particular, the number one ranked beauty and brains of Great Britain was seen having sex with fellow contestant, Alex Bowen. Apparently it was too much for some people to handle.
In a public statement issued on Thursday, the Miss Great Britain organization said "with deep regret," that they could no longer promote Holland as a "positive role model" due to her actions on the ITV2 show. "As an organization we have not taken this decision lightly, we are close to all of our winners and wherever possible stand by them during their reign. That said, we feel we have no choice but to make this decision under the current circumstances."
"We wholly understand that everyone makes mistakes, but Zara, as an ambassador for Great Britain, simply did not uphold the responsibility expected of the title," the letter continued.
Of all places, they decided to post their letter on Twitter. And in Twitter fashion, many were not having it.
Some pointed out the irony of an organization largely based upon sex appeal taking issue with someone for having sex.
Some brought attention to the fact that sex is not something worthy of shame, but something that all people do.
And others took issue with the organization's treatment of the former Miss GB herself.
As the backlash rolled in, the organization added one last comment... for the sake of clarity:
Sure, that clears it up...
