Prince Is Dead At 57

The music icon was one of the best-selling artists of all time.

Music icon Prince is dead at the age of 57. TMZ broke the sad news that Prince's body was discovered at his Paisley Park compound in Minnesota today.

Last week, Prince had a medical emergency on a flight that forced him to make an emergency landing in Illinois. His reps said at the time that he was battling the flu. Later, he appeared at a concert and told fans that he was okay. 

Born Prince Rogers Nelson on June 7, 1958), the singer and multi-instrumentalist has been a fixture in pop music for over 30 years. His first big success was his self-titled 1979 album, which features classic hits like "I Wanna Be Your Lover" and "Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad?" His 1984 album Purple Rain is considered one of the greatest albums of all time and was released along with a film, which he starred in. The film won an Academy Award for Best Original Song Score and has become a music fan cult classic.

During his prolific career, he created multiple bands like The Revolution and The New Power Generation and often released music under pseudonyms, due to contractual issues. The most famous being The Artist Formerly Known as Prince or the gendered symbol  Prince logo.svg.

Prince has sold over 100 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling artists of all time. His catalogue features timeless music like "When Doves Cry," "1999" and "Beautiful Ones." He has won seven Grammy Awards, a Golden Globe and an Academy Award. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004.
