American Otaku rejoiced at the announcement of the first Western theatrical release of Sailor Moon R last month. But before Usagi Tsukino engages in a cosmic battle with the Xenian, she's keeping herself busy fighting STDs as the star of a new public health campaign in Japan.
Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) is teaming up with Sailor Moon creator Naoko Takeuchi for a new series of educational materials on sexual health.
According to Nylon, "[The] ministry will distribute 5,000 posters and 156,000 pamphlets that encourage women to practice safe sex, get checked by a doctor, and seek treatment at nearby clinics if diagnosed with an STD or STI on World AIDS Day, which falls on December 1." Hey, that's today!
A press release from the MHLW says they'll also be distributing 60,000 condoms with Sailor Moon's angelic visage emblazoned on the heart-shaped packaging.
