While shopping for prom dresses this season, teens and parents in Omaha, Nebraska are likely to come across a strange sight: dresses made entirely out of condoms. The colorful gowns were created by the Adolescent Health Project and the Women's Fund of Omaha, and by placing the dresses in popular prom dress hunting spots, they hope to encourage teens and parents to talk about protection on prom night.
Aside from being made out of condoms, printed on the tags is a powerful message: "Being safe is always in style. Avoid sexually transmitted diseases and unintended pregnancies."
"This is a great opportunity for us to reach teens and their parents in an unexpected way before prom, and get the message out to think twice before having unprotected sex, because it can lead to multiple health risks or even a baby," said Gary Mueller in an interview with WOWT News. Mueller is the creative Director of SERVE, a non-profit ad agency working on the campaign.
Photos of the show-stopping dresses can be seen below. Just remember that they aren't actually for sale, so you're out of luck if you were hoping to scoop up that black and pink number for your next cocktail party.
