Aaliyah fans will be getting a special gift this Christmas. Producer Timbaland announces that he will be dropping a new, unreleased song from the late singer on his Kings Stay Kings mixtape. The 16-track mixtape also features collaborations from Young Thug, Rich Homie Quan and Mila J...but the song we can’t wait to hear is from Aaliyah.
Timbaland and Aaliyah worked extensively during her career. The two shaped each other's sound and created her breakthrough One in a Million album, as well as hits like “Are You That Somebody?” and “We Need a Resolution.” “She was like blood, and I lost blood,” he said, after she died tragically in a plane crash in 2001. “Me and her together had this chemistry. I kinda lost half of my creativity to her. It’s hard for me to talk to the fans right now. Beyond the music, she was a brilliant person, the [most special] person I ever met.”
Aaliyah has influenced a generation of artists and several, including Drake and Chris Brown, have sampled her vocals. Drake was even said to be working on a posthumous album that was called off following fan backlash. For real Aaliyah fans, it’s good to see her reunited with the producer that knew her best.
