Lindsay Lohan’s Mom Dina Pleads Not Guilty To DWI Charge After Allegedly Leaving Accident Scene

Authorities have accused Dina Lohan of driving drunk and hitting another car, only to drive away without exchanging information.

Lindsay Lohan’s mother, Dina Lohan, was arrested in Long Island, New York over the weekend for allegedly driving drunk and leaving the scene of an accident.

Lohan, 57, appeared in court on Sunday, January 12, where she entered a not guilty plea to a charge of felony DWI, E! News reports.

Lohan was arrested the day before, with a felony complaint alleging that she hit the back of a Honda CRV with her Mercedes at Merrick Mall at around 7 p.m. on Saturday, NBC New York reports. Lohan is alleged to have then fled the scene, prompting the driver of the Honda to follow behind her while calling 911; the second driver, along with police, then drove after Lohan to her Merrick home, where they found her sitting in her car, according to the outlet.

One officer who confronted Lohan said that her breath smelled like she’d been drinking and that her eyes were “glassy and bloodshot,” the outlet reports, citing the complaint. Furthermore, authorities reportedly claimed that she stumbled when exiting the vehicle and fell down onto the ground, face-first, during the attempt.

In addition to a DWI charge, Lohan was also charged with operating an unregistered vehicle, operating an uninspected vehicle, driving without a license, and aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle in the 3rd degree, according to CNN. Her lawyer, Mark Jay Heller, confirmed to the outlet that his client, who has since been released from custody, entered not guilty pleas to all of the charges.

The additional charges likely stem from allegations that the registration for Lohan’s vehicle had expired and had not undergone an inspection, in addition to the fact that Lohan’s license had been suspended in July for not paying taxes, according to NBC New York.

Lohan is due to return to court next Wednesday, at which point they intend to fight the case, Heller told E! News.

“We’re going to vigorously defend the case against her,” he told CNN. “She never had a sobriety test, and we take the position that they are not going to be able to establish that she was driving while intoxicated.”

Lohan admitted to police to having drank one glass of wine but did not consent to taking a breathalyzer test, prompting officers to take her into custody, according to the felony complaint obtained by NBC New York.

Of the accident itself, which occurred while Lohan was leaving a steakhouse, her lawyer suggested that the damage done was minimal.

“Two vehicles touched each other, there was no real damage,” he told CNN.

Lohan has previously had trouble with the law, having pleaded guilty in 2014 to driving while intoxicated and speeding. Her driver’s license was suspended for a year and she was ordered to complete 100 hours of community service, pay a $3,000 fine, attend a rehabilitation program, and install an interlock device on her car that would prevent her from starting it if she wasn’t sober, according to ABC News.
