Peacock is taking viewers back to the shores of Aruba in the new documentary Pathological: The Lies of Joran van der Sloot

"Through rare interviews with victims’ family members, eyewitnesses and experts on the criminal mind, Pathological: The Lies of Joran van der Sloot reveals new insights into how Joran van der Sloot’s lifelong pattern of violence and pathological lying leads to the deaths of two young women," according to a press release.

A trailer for the upcoming documentary — premiering February 27 on Peacock — features multiple people close to the Natalee Holloway case who speak about their recollections of the events that took place in the wake of each woman's disappearance. One of those interviewed is Holloway's own brother, Matthew Holloway, who tells the camera, "He killed my sister. Who's to say he's not going to snap and kill somebody else?"

Stephany Flores' Murder

Additionally, family members and others will talk about the murder of 21-year-old Stephany Flores, a Peruvian woman killed by van der Sloot in 2010. Van der Sloot told Peruvian investigators in 2011 that he had beat and strangled Flores in his Lima hotel room after she began searching his name online and discovered he was a suspect in Holloway's 2005 disappearance.

"We were a happy family and this destroyed us," Flores' father says in the trailer.

Van der Sloot is now serving a 28-year sentence for Flores' murder in a Peru prison, where he has since fathered a son.

Natalee Holloway's Murder Solved

In 2023, van der Sloot was extradited from Peru to the U.S. to face trial after prosecutors alleged that van der Sloot told Holloway's mother, Beth Holloway, that he'd tell her information about her daughter's death if she gave him $250,000, according to NBC News. The information van der Sloot offered he later described as “worthless” according to his indictment, and his scheme led to him being charged on a single count each of wire fraud and extortion. He ultimately entered a plea deal in which he'd be sentenced to 20 years in U.S. prison to be served concurrently with the 28-year sentence he's currently serving in Peru in exchange for confessing to the events that happened the night Holloway disappeared.

In his confession, van der Sloot said that he took Holloway out onto the beach where he made a sexual advance. When the young woman rejected him, he killed her and dumped her body in the ocean.

Though the Holloway family is relieved to know the truth of what happened, "Joran’s history of deceit and manipulation leads some to question the details in his latest story," according to Peacock's press release.

Pathological: The Lies of Joran van der Sloot will premiere February 27 on Peacock.
